Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation

Our first farm opened in 1983 at a correctional facility in New York, where inmates participated in a nationally accredited TRF Second Chances vocational training program in equine care and stable management. The TRF Second Chances program has since expanded to 9 states and provides an important "job" for horses whose racing-related injuries leave them unsuitable for a second career as a riding horse. The inmates learn marketable skills as well as invaluable lessons in compassion and responsibility. TRF also offers permanent retirement at 16 private farms around the country.
